Jay Reatard… so much to say about him. How about word associations instead: visceral, brutal, honest, sex, sweet, hard, kinetic, real, generous, violent, romantic.
Jay’s music above all was truthful. For me, it is a catalyst for the pain and frustration I feel in this disaster of a society and the brutality of natural life.
Rarely does an artist come out and give you the blood-and-tear soaked truth of our current life situation. Instead the lifestyle industries try to numb our brains and collect our hard earned money with the boring idiots they have trained and put in our faces.
Jay Reatard respected us and himself enough to give us something real, an honest reflection of modern life experience. This is a great gift. Knowing that I was not alone in the disappointment and anger I feel toward our culture gave me the ability to recognize it, see past the bull-shit and celebrate the good people and things in my life.
I am forever heart-broken that he is no longer here to clear the smoke with his flying V.
Here is a good montage of his solo project. Thank you, Jay.
